Hamon Egg 2+1

Rick Hamon and my Dad Peter St Pierre used to make these modified hull/egg boards in my Dad’s garage back in the 20th century. They called them Ham ‘n Eggs or something like that. Since then my Dad has gone from garage glasser to full on surfboard factory owner and Rick has been the head shaper at Rusty Surfboards for the past 20 years or so. Earlier this year Rick shaped this 6’9″ for my Dad. It was a single fin until last week, my Dad just added those snazzy bamboo sidefins. You knoe, to give his egg a little extra bite. I haven’t ridden it but I’ve seen my Dad get a few nice waves on it. If you want one we could probably make you one too.

Displacement
Words and Photos by Gothic Dolphins

Hull and stubby explorations fill the reels of Alex Kopp’s gay-for-trim film, Displacement. Now that we have the issue in our hands, we’re not sure what we were thinking. Is this an art-zine installation? A class project? A 16-page free advertisement for a surf movie? We’ll leave that up to you, dear readers. For what it’s worth, the filmmaker promises that, “[The film] covers all of these issues and more in exhaustive detail, finally explaining the Transitional Displacement Hull and the people who ride them in plain language for the average surfer.” He also notes that hulls are “here to ruin your surfing.”

New at Moonlight, Mandala Tri-Plane Hulls

Manuel Caro has been working with guru Marc Andreini to develop these hot little hulls with tri-plane bottoms. These modified hulls, 5’11” and 6’1″, have forgiving rails and can be ridden with great success in beachbreaks and other waves that aren’t Malibu. The boards pictured are for sale in the Moonlight showroom, you should cruise by and check them out.
