Friends of Gus

I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Gus Fleming has passed away, it doesn’t seem right. Gus was an amazing surfer and he had the most positive attitude towards life I’d ever known. Why do people like that always die young?

Justin Cote wrote some nice words about Gus on the Transworld website,

On Thursday September 4th the surfing community lost one of our beloved brothers due to complications of Lou Gehrig’s disease. Gus Fleming was a longtime fixture at Swamis and besides his family and friends loved nothing more than ripping out there with his smooth style and friendly demeanor.

There will be a memorial paddle out for Gus at Swami’s Saturday, September 20th.

I think I’m too young to remember his surfing, But I sure have heard stories about his graceful style back in the 80’s, I would have loved to have seen it.

I’m printing some stickers today of the “I’m a Frog” logo Jon Mosley made to hand out on Saturday.
They are free, on me, so if you knew Gus, make sure you get one.
Also, there will be T-shirts on sale for $20.00
The proceeds will go to Surfrider & Gus’s kids.

Gus was a good man. He will be forever missed.
