“Get Your Stoke On” DK Quad Fish

This is my new 5’8″ “swordfish” quad shaped by DJ Kane. It has a teardrop panel filled with my surfy doodle cartoons. Not all the doodles are shown because most of the shots I took were out of focus because after 3 years of doing this blog I still have not figured out how to operate a digital camera correctly. I will post the rest this week.

One cartoon proved to be controversial and I kinda regret doing it now, The Infamous Passive/Aggressive: How to Order a Surfboard Doodle.

There is a 5’9″ DK Swordfish quad for sale in the showroom that has my art on it, click here.

This board goes really well, I like it in beachbreaks best so far. You can attack the lip and surf aggro if you want which is kind of fun to do a Fish. I’m playing with some different fins now and will report back with the results.

You insensitive bastage. We don’t have “A-frames up and down the beach” here on Folly Beach. Mocking our crumbly left/rights? I came here at 7am to get my stoke on, know I’m not very stocked.

Great looking board DK and great dude-els JP!
Just read the passive aggressive thread– anyone who got offended by that drawing should have their surfers card revoked. Gimmie a break people. Remember when surfers werent thin skinned pussies?

Nice board JP. Post up on how it rides for ya, too.

I gotta say, that’s exactly what I was afraid of (“…I don’t want JP to hesitate posting something for fear people might not enjoy him goofing around a bit.”) As a businessman, I guess you have to be careful about alienating people even if they are unreasonable to begin with. But it’s a loss to the rest of us who dig the work, including your doodles, if you end up self-censoring too much. If it’ll help, I’ll give you my name and photo and you can make me the stock butt of any and all kook/customer jokes you want … I’d be honored!

    JP,
Dont take it to heart bro. I dont think people quite understand. They felt like you were picking on them the customer…which is incorrect.

You are picking on super ridiculously aggro customer who ask for “a bro deal”. Or the kooky guy who demands a board to work as both a small wave groveler and a minigun.

You people have no idea how many weirdo shapers, material companys, glassers, and surfboard buyers this guy deals with on a regular basis. And if you know JP at all..you know that hes about as mellow and helpful as anyone. You could ask him y they put that piece of wood down the middle of your board you didnt ask for and i guarantee he would give u a polite explanation.

The bottom line is there is no bad customers if they are buying surfboards! Unless your name is Justin Phillips….

I’ll admit in my earlier days of surfing I was “the kooky guy who demands a board to work as both a small wave groveler and a minigun.”

Now after getting worked over by the older bros, I better understand.

And now I get pissed when Kooks (Ipod Boy) show up at our break with an Ipod strapped to his arm and can barely balance while laying on the board.

The shit talking continues…why you guys have to hate? Huh? Why you have to hate…Lets move on and talk about surfboards.

No Regrets! That toon was spot-on, and if it harshed their mellow they can come by the moonbase for a group hug and a cookie… a soy based cookie, no nuts they’re ‘lergic.

Here’s a stupid question- I’m a bit of a doodler myself, how would I go about doing something like this on my personal board? Any specific pens to use? Can I use a past doodle that I have on a piece of paper and somehow transfer it to the board without having to redraw it?

How did you go about doing it?
    -Thanks

Doodler Dood, I used the Japanese Posca pens on the sanded hotcoat and then glossed over it.
