Dumpster Diver

We gots Dumpster Divers at Surfy Surfy. The one pictured here is 5’10” x 20″ x 2 1/2″

This board has interesting rail patches at the tail which are printed fiberglass.
The Dumpster Diver is ridden by super duper famous pro surfer Dane Reynolds, who has a groovy surf blog called Marine Layer.

Nothing wrong with Roberts, I wanted to order some but he doesn’t want to send shaped blanks to Moonlight. Surfy Surfy is the Moonlight Glassing store. All boards in the new store must be built at Moonlight.
Also, I just gotta say, after laying a Roberts White Diamond next to the CI Dumpster Diver I just had to laugh at all the recent message board drama. Those boards are barely similar and both look pretty much like 1980’s shortboards.

Ha Ha good one, Surfy. The “conspiracy” sure was a great way to draw some attention, however. Have you seen the thread on erBB? Sheep. Surfers are sheep. Long live Reno…

Anyone who thinks those boards are similar and the DD is a ripoff knows nothing about surf design. Heck even if you didn’t you could still see the differences.

I’ve said it before, if the DD was a ripoff wouldn’t Dane be riding a diamond tail with the same surface area as the WD? Hmmmm.

Corpo? Family owned business that is taking the risk at branching out? Good for you JP and the rest of the family. Some of the nicest folks I have ever met and sincerely interested in sharing the stoke of surfing with others.

even Jordy Smith said his roberts diamond was nothing like the dumpster he saw in a surf shop, he promptly dropped the plastic and paid full pop retail for the dumpster and rode it in the sydney airshow

Well, I am the proud owner of the DD model shown here and I have to say that this board is really awesome.
I am very low level but I am having a blast with that board. It paddles quite easy for that size and catches waves quite fast.
The most amazing part is the turning ability. This board has moves.
If Surfy Surfy gets another one in stock, rush for it, you won’t regret the buy.

The biggest issue in surfing is people think by buying a CI board will turn them into the next Kelly Slater. Watching all the pros riding these boards and buying them off the rack because it was well marketed. 1st of all custom is the only way to go. You can call Roberts and get a custom in a few weeks and actually talk to Robert himself. You call CI and you’ll be lucky to get a hold of AL himself and be lucky if your custom board comes within 4 or 5 months. I’ve ridden CI boards for a long a while but notice the difference in board performance in the past 15 years. The price of his boards increased as he started to get more well known. Maybe due to surfer contracts and sponsorship demands. Which the retailers always ends up paying for. Al only shaped for his pros, and shadow shapers shaped for the public like me and you. Its gotten worse since his health diminished, sold the business to Burton (Snowboard Giant)and I’m not sure if his son Britt is doing anything for CI. Al isn’t the only shaper I’ve seen this happen to, there are other shapers in the industry doing the same thing. They have forgotten why and who they are shaping for. Robert just became shaper of the year and I hope that he doesn’t end up in the same path. So far he’s been pretty humble and he still enjoys working with surfers like myself who’s not a pro or stride to be one. I’m just like any of you sick of where surfing has gone as a sport and industry….. (this is not Bobby Martinez) Everything about surfing is so heavily marketed and the thing about Roberts White Diamond, it was passed on through word of mouth and internet blogs. People’s true feedback and not what some pro thinks about it. Thus passing the savings on to us (consumers). If you are really trying to compare the DD to the WD the major difference is the price. Save yourself over $200 for a custom. I’ve seen many shapes come and go and the WD is by far the best shape I’ve seen in surfing in a very long time.
