This Skip Frye belonged to Moonlight Glassing sander Kenny Mann in the 80’s. It resurfaced in a Huntington Beach resale shop and few years ago and is now in the hands of Surfy Surfy team rider Justin Phillips who surfs it often.
Update: now resides on the wall of The Board Source in Carlsbad, Ca.
RIP Kenny Mann.

July 16, 2009That board is in great shape, especially considering how old it is! As usual, great work by the Moon Crew!

July 16, 2009Trippy, I was just telling someone in the water this morning that I have never ridden a Skip Frye that I didn’t like. I bet it goes great. Too bad he doesn’t shape for us mortals anymore…

July 17, 2009Kenny should be able to confirm.
Was this originally shaped as a Bonzer?

July 17, 2009Perhaps I misquoted or misheard?
Surfy Surfy!
July 17, 2009This board originally was a glass-on thruster. After we started making Bonzers for Malcolm in like 1989 Kenny grinded the fins off and the board was retrofitted as a 5 fin. Who says surfboard sanders don’t like sanding glass-ons?
When Justin got this board he surfed it 5 hours a day, everyday. It’s currently safely in storage while Justin and his family are tearing it up in France.
*note-this board now has a slight twist in it so it goes right insane.

July 17, 2009I have this board locked away in the my board dungeon.
Justin left it to me as a loaner till he gets back from “Franco-land”. I got the “Skiponzer” in good 4ft. inside Swami’s and have done some sneaky missions to my mysto beach break and Lowers. The board is snappy off the top and rails in the turns. Cruising out with it, you for sure get the weird looks.
So, until Justin gets back I’ll have it under lock and key.
