Ice Blue 9’2″

John Cherry collaboration with his buddy Christopher Tomlin. This is Christopher’s first shape job and hopefully he will get to surf it a bunch before he is sent back to Iraq or Afghanistan.
(apologies for the grainy photos, the iPhone camera doesn’t do well in low light).

Thanks for the spot JP. Chris will be even more stoked than he already was.
The amazing thing is, Chris did all the hands-on for this 1st one himself. I just hung in the background and gave some instructions. The kid has a natural eye for shape and symmetry and a natural hand for all the tools, including the planer.

It is often lamented about the dieing interest in the craft of hand shaping with the retirement of all the shapers of the past decades. I am in constant contact with younger, talented kids who want nothing more than to master the craft and continue the tradition of the hand-shaped board. Besides the young up-an-comers, already active in the industry like Chris Christensen, Josh Hall, manuel “Manny” Caro, Danny Hess and others, there are herds of kids who are seeking the knowledge and instruction to continue the tradition while attempting their fisrt boards. Chris is one of those. 4 tours in Iraq as a I.E.D. tech and a foot soldier warrior, he is truly an American hero.
I was delighted to be a part of his 1st one.

    Aloha Chris. JC
