101 Bamboo Fins in Surfing Magazine

The Jan 2009 Surfing Magazine,

features this 2 page spread of Taylor Knox,

and a nice view of Taylor’s bamboo fins (handmade for the Lokbox system by Marlin Bacon).

37 year old Taylor Knox carving it up.

In the same issue, 101 Fins for Lokbox is included on a full page fin roundup.

It’s nice to see Marlin’s handmade performance bamboo fins next to all the mass produced composite techie fins.

I’ve had the grave displeasure of being without for a little time. It makes you really appreciate how good these fins really are. I’ve pretty much got all my boards set up with bamboo now, Now I want a full set of back-ups, then I’ll never have to go without. G

If we would have just kept our blogger holes shut, we could have kept the performance benefits to ourselves. Now the whole freaking world knows.

why no FCS-compatible 101 bamboo fins? I never see FCS come out of Moonlight either. why? currently have FCS on a Larmo Twinzer Fish and have had zero problems, and my surfing has only gotten better on that board in the last year. FCS seems to work for Slater and many others, so why don’t we see any FCS coming out of Moonlight? and Futures seem rare too, it’s all Lokbox and glass-ons.

Moonlight has done thousands and thousands of surfboards with FCS, in fact we were one of the very first glass shops in the USA to install them. Back then FCS was called the Gorilla Grip system. Back then I ground off my glass-on fins and installed the new plugs and I showed the product to many surfers for the first time. I have posted boards with FCS and Futures on Surfy Surfy before.

    J.P., I heard that D.J. Kane’s
6 ‘ 3 ” six channel has custom Marlin twins on them.

Maybe we could keep the 101 stoke going.

so why no FCS-compatible 101 bamboos? I’d love to get some for my Larmo.

thanks for the FCS explanation. I was not a visitor here until about a year ago.

Judging from Mr. Knox’x turn, it does not look like he is using fins at all! Schraaaaaallppp!

Because if you do a Taylor turn on f.c.s. you will lose your marlins.

    At least they float.

On your Larmo why don’t you get Jimmy Lokbox to convert it ?

    Problem solved.

I believe that there are legal issues with making fins for the FCS system without their consent.

The rest of the top 44 took lessons on how to turn as hard as Knox, but they all got Cs.
