If I don’t wear the hat and use the air hose to blow off after shaping I look like a caveman and get asked where the hat is… when I do wear the hat I got bobsurf raggin on me for always wearing a backwards hat. I would shave my head but I’m afraid it wont grow back!
This is a really fun little keel I shaped for a guy around the neighborhood. To be honest It was one of those boards I wanted to keep!
hey if the hat – no hat messy hair is an issue just stop by a thrift store or clown shop or whatever and pick up a wig! it can live in the shaping bay when you don’t need it, volah problem solved mate!
if you like this idea just send one of those fish swimmin up here to oregon 🙂
DJ’s boards are def. clean. Saw a couple of samples at the NY Fry(e) and was impressed with his interpretation of the fish. It looks like a fish for riders more accustomed to riding thrusters. I’d love to give one a go.
how about more than one logo? that one is good for the younger thruster riding type guys, and you could do a different style for fish etc. Also, a “DJ Kane” logo would be good for building your name recognition.
I agree, the logo is beat. However, the boards are great. I saw Reese Lewis getting absoluetly filthy on his 6′ DK performance quad the other day down in Melbourne. Until he showed it to me up close I was positive he was riding a shortboard.
Thats funny you mention that Ian! Reese called me later that day and mentioned he met you. Sounds like you guys got a little swell while In Florida! Justin’s twinfinner just got finished this afternoon. Gonna meet him here in a few to go surf. JP suposedly “took 100 pictures of it” when I asked him to take a couple because I forgot my camera at the house…so we shall see what he produces.
as for the logo, that logo was designed by our good friend Peter St. Pierre. As for now it is good enough for me. I like how it looks clean and hate big logos on boards. But I am always looking for logo work. So put your money where your mouth is, come up with something cool and original and if its good enough ill give you a super-bro-deal on a new board! Logo guys are worse than surfboard builders. I tell them to design something and describe myself and the boards I make and they ask “what do you want?” well if I knew wouldn’t I have drawn it already?

May 19, 2008I continue to like the logo, DK. Keep it. Low key, direct, to the point. Not too flashy, not too cutesy. Straight forward & easy.
Nice, clean looking board.
I was going to make a hat joke, but the very first post beat me to it. Guess it makes too easy of a target.
