KC

Kasey Curtis in one of southern California’s legitimate power surfers. From single fins, Bonzers, thrusters and quads, Kasey kills it. He is also co-owner of the Lokbox fin system and Rainbow Fin Co rep. Sadly, many fin company reps in the modern surf industry can barely surf. It’s nice to work with a guy who can give you honest feedback about the products he sells.

The fact of the matter is a majority of people that build boards do not “surf” in the way I consider surfing. Maybe they used to surf (maybe a lot, maybe not so much. Maybe they were proficient surfers, maybe they were not) but don’t anymore. Most get feed back from succeeding generations of active surfers that use there creations. I think the basic understanding of the things that make boards work, that make boards last, that make make boards great to look at and ride coupled with experience (lot’s of experience) and a true pride in what they do is worth more than surfing chops. I’ve gotten some of the best boards of my life from shapers that were either way past their prime (and were currently “weekenders” at best) or were NEVER good surfers BUT they had the experience and were true craftsmen. That’s one of the many things that overseas boards will NEVER have. Having said all that, KC kills it and if anyone can tell you which fin template works best in which board in which conditions, it’s him. LokBox is a true roots company that just keeps getting better.

I go waaaaaay back with KC… any new boards I get are with LB…. K set me up with some different quad sets to get my quiver dialed in…. I didn’t like one set so he swapped me out… how many guys do that for you… he hand delivered and returned a gun that JJR retro fit with LB for me…. and as for his surfing…. he charges harder than anyone at Salt Creek ROP….
