Avery the Brave update June 2013

Many of you in the Surfyverse have graciously donated to the cause of 2 year old Avery Hanel, the granddaughter of our favorite local guru shaper Gary Hanel. Avery has been diagnosed with  MDS (myelodystlastic syndrome)

GH sez,

Avery the brave update. Avery has been through 9 days of chemo and is on day 3 after the transplant. As you can see she is kicking butt. She is in isolation and it will be about a month before we know if the cell are growing properly. She continues to amaze everyone, including the doctors, with how well she is dealing with this. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

So glad to see this. these updates are one of the main reasons i come to this site.
    amazing little girl.

Mom, Dad, and Family..keep up the good work. one day, or hour, or minute, or breath at a time. Stay brave, inspired, and well rested.

got the positive energies flowing in “y’alls” direction.

Crazy thing, the Hanels car was stolen out of the Children’s Hospital parking lot. It was recovered at 3am by police. The vehicle itself seems to be okay but they stole all the personal items including Avery’s toys.

Who steals cars from a Children’s Hospital???

MDS = Myelodys-P-lastic. Bone marrow transplants can be very tough. Best wishes to her and the Hanel family.

    Thank you for the update!

    Hang in there Hanels.
I speak from experience, when your child is in the hospital, not much else matters but this may feel like a psychological pile on.
so the “stuff” and car will be taken care of. Yeah, the sentimentals are not there and those things were hers. that has got to sting. let it go for now. save your energy. remain positive and just as important, have patience.

the trash that stole the car and your items will get theirs. I would gladly take care of them for you if i could.

Update: the car was recovered by police a few miles away. All of Avery’s toys and car seat were stolen but the vehicle was pretty much unharmed.
