October 22, 2012I totally love it. You rarely see this kind of work and painstaking detail in surfboards anymore. I love the seamless fusion of Eastern, Meso American, and Western motifs… something only a veteran artist like Starman could pull off. Like the original Rainbow surfboards in the 60’s and early 70’s, this is aiming for something more than a surfboard… back when surfboards were very personal possessions with a soul, almost imbued with a magical, power that represented a transition between the mystical and the functional. There’s much more of a narrative going on here beyond the usual simple minded surfboard graphics, but not everyone will get that, or even try to understand it. One example, the Mandalas illustrated on the deck represent in Tibetan mythology a metaphysical portal into another cosmic world, in this case a watery one. Just finding artwork on boards by artists from this influential era of surfboard art is getting rarer and rarer. My only complaint is that it will probably end up in some kind of cultural museum, instead of the water.

October 23, 2012I don’t remember my Intro to Phys Sci class too well, but there might be a little mass vs. weight vs. volume problem here…couldn’t 10 pounds of shit fit just fine into a 5 pound bag, depending on it’s density and mass?

October 23, 2012That board is just plain bitchin! i never used the word groovy back in the day, ha! A wall hanger? if she were mine she just might be a wall hanger as there isn’t anything wrong with having such a pretty board ( a piece of art)on ones wall. The only fault i have with it is those cheap plastic side bites as FCS does have those side bites in PC. Peace, taco’s & olas Doug
