remember the days when you had one board. Surfed it until it was water logged and dinged to death. Road into the ground. Now with the advent of pro surfing every kid in the valley has a full quiver fortifying the Surf industrial complex. Where’s the T-shirt quiver shot?
Actually, that’s pretty funny Beej – imagine if you had kept every surf T, flip flop, or pair of shorts you ever owned. Somebody has to have done it, like Dale Webster and all his old wetsuits! Man, I wish I still had my early 80’s OP corduroy shorts and flip flops.
Some of us are stoked to surf. You clearly are not. Go somewhere else.
ps – glad you got something out of your first college philosophy class. Keep buying those new Prius models and bucking the system! Or do you just get around on a uni-cycle (cause 2 wheels is cultural clutter hoarding)?
I’ve kept a lot of stuff over the years pertaining to surfing and skateboarding…boards, stickers, magazines, t-shirts, flyers, and other bits and pieces…I used to just keep it ‘cus it was just a cool thing to do as a kid…I still surf and skate now as an adult, and as a father of a 4 y/o daughter, it is a cool thing to share with her and to facilitate and encourage something that brought me a lot of joy, and kept me out of a lot more trouble then I could have gotten into as a kid…having stuff from the 1960’s through the present, my own personal surf and skate history, is just the best thing to share with my child and in that regards, I’m pretty stoked I kept all this stuff.
Half the boards in the photo are obvious vintage garage sale rescues of boards that would otherwise end up in the dumpster. Some look like customs, specifically for surf trips. It’s not excessive to have a Bali quiver that is different from your normal winter/summer quiver.
I also agree with previous posts of too much. All we as american culture do is buy and collect crap. How many cool things can we buy off ebay- click! I need a new t-shirt -click, I need that piece of vinyl – click. oh..retro…Click! Car- click! porn- click, $400 backpack – Click, $300 pair of shoes …click.. Camera…click…..new board…click..click..click..life-CLICk
To the fellow with the quiver to cool, love that old Sunset! now to the us bad Americans, give me a break, dang i get tired on hearing how bad we Americans are. YAWN! Myself i have 13 boards , half are retired and the rest hell i just like them and i don’t feel bad about owning them or buying them why should i as each one is special to me. Peace, taco’s & olas. Doug
Thanks for the conjecture. All boards are mine, except three. The Bing Karma, the Sunset and the hammerhead(my 8 year olds). If noticed you can see every era I have been a part of. The Bing twin was my first board 75 and then follow the cycle. I am missing my 6’2 Dick Catri 78 and the Fox twin 82ish,they went the way of trade in.The rest of my Malcolms are about one per year with a travel board in some of my orders cause when your on the east coast ,somtimes its money well spent when shipping 1 board vs two.So to all my surfing buddies the quiver is not such a quiver but a walk with a surfers past, plus Im saving the earth and not dumping all those toxins . No surfbro or hipster, just a surfer ,you guys remember them?
