  • Shawn

I think the surf culture has been a great benefit to surfing and people at large.

i think we all know who to blame for this… Keanu Reeves in Point Break

Nope… Whoever invented the leash is to blame. Before that surfers were real watermen, practiced proper etiquette and knew their place in the lineup. With the leash came people who did not even have to know how to swim, just how to flip their board thinking they are really catching air on that one, instead of doing a proper pullout.

I thought the Beach Boys ruined surfing? Or was it Gidget? I can’t remember. I need a nap.

“Whoever invented the leash is to blame.”

i’m getting sick and tired of that lame excuse and what to punch those people in the face. if you’re going to blame something to make yourself feel superior, blame surf schools

  • Shawn

I’m not really sure what that t-shirt means. I’m not sure what or who one is blaming and what they are blaming whoever it is for. The Leash? Hmmm. Well, one can take it further because the leash is attached to the board And a person is attached to the board. So, who’s to blame for what? I myself think I have enriched peoples life with my well designed t-shirts and progressive board shaping, along with other things I’ve worked on in the art world to help provide positive input to the surf culture at large. Just my 2-cents.

    “Waterman” is code for gay.

Henry Ford is to blame by giving access to the coast to thousands who’d never have ventured there if they hadn’t had access to relatively cheap automobiles.

As far as culture is concerned, the only one truly unharmed by the surf machine is Latinos, who font care about shit. They’ll wear any old clothes to the beach and even go body surfing in jeans and a shirt.

I surf waves of angry surfer tears.

Waterman is gay? How shallow can you get. Come out to the deep water anonymous and lets go for a session. Us gays also like go surfing in jeans as long as they are designer wear.

Stussy, love your boards and design. Keep up the good work and positive
vibe. I agree I don’t know what this t-shirt means.

Leashes and no 1-baby-only law (like china) is to blame, too many people with cords equals me contemplating learning another sport, like desert sand surfing 🙂

When I was a kid if you wore a surfboard shapers T shirt or an O’neill T shirt, or a Hobie shirt etc, you wore those things because you DID surf and and were proud to be apart of the whatever you wanna a call it, lets say surf culture. When you traveled along the coast or your wherever… people new right away you were a surfer and there was respect. Other surfers would say, “did you go out today? There was definitely A LOT more camaraderie- was actually a real special time and I know this sounds stupid- sacred time. NOW YOU GOT EVERYONE FROM ARIZONA TO LOUISIANA WEARING SAID ABOVE!! poser nation! Just my 2cents… Yea what’s that R stand for? Rusty! Who’s He? I don’t know?!
I think he makes snowboards for Burton?! I think there are people on here (surfysurfy) that want the leash plug removed?

Nike …target? …ect. like it or not surfing is part of the machine. I don’t have any heavy arguments, but my gut tells me it’s kinda sad. But seriously …it’s P.T. and Iain Carns fault.

those that have to fill the void in their life by belonging to some “culture” are pussies. grow some balls and be an individual.

  • Anonymous
    September 30, 2011

Where was I in 62? Not born yet old man.

I blame all of Southern Ca for a culture-less void that it is. a place that hasn’t been bombed and the woman haven’t been told to shut up- Bukowski. The land of sillycone tits and the John Wayne airport. Newport beach and the 54th street new wavers. San Diego the land of Neo-cons and white supremacists. Tijuana has more culture than all of Southern Cal. Surfers are just a bunch of valley girly girls.

if you are going to complain about lack of culture then go somewhere else and bring the seeds with you…

southern california is a cultureless void

    surfing is not…never will be.

    September 30, 2011

indeed surfer girly girls grow balls- The shemales / transvestites of aqua land.

Brendon with your long locks of brown curly waves of hair are you the head girly girl shemale? I wouldn’t live in Southern Ca if my life depended on it. You should go somewhere else so that southern Ca can regenerate into it’s natural state. I say all southern cali surfers should move to ohio and work in a quarry for a year so that they can stop being such fools of fools.

    September 30, 2011

You said All So Cal surfers move? Nah I think Mr Frye & Co make GREAT role models and set great examples… and the legend example list goes on forever. Yea there are kooks in So Cal, but those kooks are young and learning… also young and stupid, also live inland. The surf industry ISSUE has to do with taking something real special and selling it out for $$$$. I IE- Waikiki. (Look what they did there!)

You don’t like long hair or locks on a man? You must have one of those Butch Strap on Look hairdoos on your melon! Were glad-stoked you don’t want to live here, by your post we know what kind of person you really are! Take care Butch, and what color is that strapon you wear out there in Ohio while shoveling?

Waikiki ? look what they did to South cal from L.A. to the mexi border.

    September 30, 2011

Whatever, Why do people say it’s just so. Cal and stops in Mexico. Ever been to Oregon, Washington, or Canada? They’re almost all kooks there. Mexico untouched? Nay, what about Chuy Reyna? The Irish? Nope, Bobby Owens! Arabs? Nope, Yadin Nichols? The English? Nope, Joel Tudor, and French??? Well look to where this post started. Sheez! Now the Gays and the Butches. Truth be told people, the only pure….truly untouched culture there is is Retarded people.

Is that one guy saying He’s Retarded?

Are you saying the real culprits and the answer to the 64,000.00 question is… Oregon,Washington, Canada, Mexico, Chuy Reyna, the Iris, Bobby Owens, Sand Negros, Yadin, The English, Joel Tuter, and the French? Oh! I forgot Butch & the Gays…

Hey I’ll give you some free $$ consultation, start a clothing Co called RCP
“retarded culture people.” THEN YOU CAN WEAR THE SHIRT @ THE TOP OF THE PAGE : ) Are we having fun yet or what? love $ peace
