I bought a Mat from Mark as a B-day present to myself. Rode my first waves over sixty years ago on a mat. Probably haven”t been on for fifty years until this winter when I borrowed one of Ken Dogs and got my ass totally kicked in six foot surf a humbling experience and a waste of a good day of waves. but I’m a glutten for punishment and am jealous of some of the barrels I’ve seen Ken get. This time I’m starting in tiny surf and working my way up to small. And if I do a bad as last time it will be good for the Grandsons to play with this summer. So dont hate on Mats save that for SUPS

No hate for mats, just shoddily-made,souless copies of a beautiful design.Spend your heard-earned cash wisely and buy the real things,a 4th Gear Flyer from the inestimable Paul Gross,or a custom-made work of art from Dale Solomonson.

Piskian speaks the truth that others won’t. We love you, Surfy Surfy. You deserve our dollars. MT and his “made in China” mats do not. No disrespect intended to anyone connected to the shop.

I hear ya cluckin’ big chicken. I tried to get some Paul Gross mats in here awhile back.

MT’s mats are actually made in Taiwan which at least is an emerging democracy.

Anyhoo, I ride Bonzers shaped by Malcolm 😉

hey, at least surfysurfy is carrying mats…

There is no way to get Dales as a stock item and I think its too hard to compete with Paul and his online sales.

I think that surfy surfy is actually cheaper than buying online.

Ok, I do not mean to offend anybody here. And I’m sure those mats are well made and a lot of fun. I’m a surfer now, but I caught my first wave on a bodyboard and I was a hard core boadyboarder for many years 20 years ago. The reason I’m saying this is because Bodyboarders are still pretty much hated by the surf community. And for the life of me, I cannot understand the difference between a mat, and a bodyboard. Why do boadyboard suck and are a pain in the line-up and mats are cool? On this very blog, not long ago there was a video of a mat dropping on a surfer. Why the double standard? Peter you like barrels? Well you would love bodyboarding man. I’m just sayin’.

Because boogieboards are pink and yellow.

“can we gettem w out all those fugly creases?”

Those ugly creases are internal beams which give it it’s shape. Withought them it would be a ball.

“I cannot understand the difference between a mat, and a bodyboard”

Mats are floppy, bodyboards are hard. The riding styles are completely different. A mat ridden properly is ridden at low inflation with the surfer giving it it’s shape.

If you mean a difference in terms of how it’s seen by other people then matting isn’t for you.

To be honest I doubt anyone buying one of these mats through this shop will go on to take mat riding seriously. They’ll just end up in the trunks of cars or in lofts. If you really want to get in to it then get a proper mat not one of these things.

“can we gettem w out all those fugly creases?”

Most likely those three sharp creases across the width are the result of being folded, multiple stacked and shipped in a package from E Asia to AU to the USA.

Yep,and because of the mass-production “made in 40 seconds”thoughtless manufacture, these babies rarely have straight I-beams or evenly-welded seams. So they don’t glide or trim, which is the whole point icaof a mat.
    FIDO on Krypts,get a 4GF or Neumatic.
Also,Taiwan(where these travesties are flung together) fishing industry responsible for factory shrimping which eradicates turtle breeding in Costa Rica and many other countries.
    Enough said methinks…

Mark Thomson’s Krypt MT5: great product made by hand, great price and fast delivery. Mark Thomson is the only surf mat manufacturer who is a world class mat surfer and the fastest in world class waves.

“great product made by hand, great price and fast delivery.”

That’s 4GF alright! Great range of sizes/designs too!

The truth about Krypt and Thomson:

    1) You can not measure speed on waves with GPS because you can’t factor in/out the speed of the wave or rise/drop speeds. This is simply meaningless marketing to sell shoddy mats to soul-fashionistas.

    2) Mark Thomson is a great mat surfer (although has gone backwards of late, probably down to his craft) but is not a surfmat builder. Any twat can pay a factory to produce anything given money.

    3) Krypt are far from hand made. Hand fed through an industrial monster of a machine does not equal hand made. Also, they are built for midget man Mark Thomson so are too small for any normal sized person.

    4) The materials are far from high quality. Way too much urethane, heavy nylon. Horrible.

    5) The valve is a joke.

    6) The grip is a bigger joke.

    7) Mark’s a dick. Good to hear from him on here though. :p
