G.C.’s GH
A big sweaty guy came into the shop the other day saying he dug an old board out of the trash and if I wanted to try and sell it for him. Of course I said yes. Turns out it’s this interesting 5 fin bonzer shaped by Gary Hanel.
Note the use of bondo as ding repair, big nose guard, gnarly traction pad and symbolic airbrush. All tell tale signs of the fun transition era from the 1980s into the 1990s.
I remember seeing this board at Swamis and D-St all the time, and the owners initials are G.C. but I can’t figure out who this board belonged to. Anyone know?

This board makes me want to break out my old Yothu Yindu cassette tapes and surf Trestles with only 50 guys instead of a 100.

September 1, 2010sure big sweaty guy didn’t steal the board? “dug it out of the trash” seems too convenient of a reply for an old bonzer in pretty decent shape (minus the nose guard). figure someone in a hip surf town like SD would try to sell a bonzer on their own before tossing it in the trash

September 23, 2010here’s G.C. at last my long lost GH. the board was stolen in the 90’s. i loaned it to a friend & he told me someone stole it from his truck. I was so bummed the boards rips. reunited after 17 yrs. wondering who the big fat sweaty guy was. only in our old age do we notice the islam theme in the logo. time to do a background check on the guys down @ moonlight glassing? I was wishing i still had that board week ago.
