Manolo Caro and his 5’1″ mini-sims. Mani is living and surfing in funky downtown Leucadia and shaping at Moonlight Glassing. You can check out his space craft at Surfy Surfy Surf Shop.
Mani’s mini-simms are very different from the ones RK and Joe are making. It’s not like Mani is Randy French, cut him some slack. He handshaped the thing and went out and surfed it. If that is not okay we might as well just hand the entire thing over to Surftech once and for all.
FYI to LMAO The word “retro” derives from the Latin prefix retro, meaning “backwards” and im pretty sure we can all agree that when riding a trifin it feels like you are going backwards. also the tri fin is a retro design and pretty much has not changed that much in over 30 years. simon was riding them way before his big break at bells in 81.
seems to be a tad too much Leucadia Fratboy backslappin goin on these days. step outside the bubble occasionally, if only to furthur cement your desire to stay within it.
local, transplant- whatever. A ripoff is a ripoff whether it’s done in China or Leucadia or Iowa. That is the Rollex watch surfboard and you’ll never stop that happening. Thrusters do seem way more retro than moontail quads though, but I rode a fish today so what would I know.
It’s true, Mani is not from Leucadia but the local community likes him. He is currently using the shaping room at Moonlight. I grew up here in Leucadia and yes, the surf shop is one block north of Leucadia Blvd on the 101. I have to laugh at the fratboy crack, the majority of post on Surfy Surfy the past year have been about a shaper from Oxnard. Always enjoy your comments guys. JP St Pierre
Support your local shaper! Screw these Oxnard kooks- oh wait, it’s the Campbells and I work with Australians-now I’m really confused. Just for the record, RK is also a great guy and he’s worked hard for a long time on this Simmons stuff. I’m down for the innovators where ever they may be.

May 14, 2010New rule. You can copy whatever you want, but you have to shape your own surfboard from now on. No more buying one ready to use.
