Great to meet you today and thanks for introducing me to manuel at mandala.

I’m excited to try out the 5’10 bonzer you guys have for demo. I guess I’ll just give you guys a call when I have time to pick it up…

Heard the show was a big success, and also that East Coast boy RC represented in the Caster tribute shape-off.

Yep, Ricky Carroll won the shaping tribute competition, second year in a row. My Dad was one of the judges. I had a feeling that Ricky Carroll was going to win when Ian Zamora told me that he watched Carroll put in the channels with his planer and they came out perfect.

Cut em with a planer. Everyone just stood there like… uh-oh. Would’ve liked to see a local win it given the Billy Caster tribute but RC has got chops for sure. Good to meet you JP as well.

RC is definitely one of the gnarliest craftsmen around. I think he’s proved that by winning a board buildoff (which he shaped..woodburned..glassed, sanded himself) and 2 sacred craft shape offs 2 years in a row.

Good for him! The guy doesn’t get nearly as much credit as he deserves.

ontop of that anyone who can cut clean channels into a blank with a planer in front of a bunch of people watching is the real deal.

I had the good fortune of watching Bill Caster shape many boards, including the Col Smith channel bottoms that he was doing for many guys surfing big Black’s back in the early 80’s. I have to say that Bill didn’t carve those things with a planer pass.

    Serious props.
