Thanks for taking the comment down Cyrus has no journalistic integrity, just to let everyone know what a rat bastard he is for suing Rob Machado. Cyrus looks lame with his pube mustache and should apologize for being a egocentric prick go try and take advantage of another pro surfer. Let the world know he is a snake!!!!!!!!

Anonymous sources are not journalism. I don’t know if the lawsuit is factual or not, right now it borders on libel until I get sent proof.

angry guy- cyrus here. strong words considering the anon veil. For anyone who stumbles upon this post the matter between Machado and myself went down like this. Rob approached me about making a film, we shook hands and agreed to split the profits 50/50 with the understanding that I would pay for my filming expenses and Rob would pay for his travel. We shot for nearly two years and I racked up nearly $50,000 in film and travel bills. During the winter of 2006 I got a phone call from his manager requesting to change the deal to a 70/30 split their way with no explanation. I called Rob on numerous occasions to get his stance on the change and I never heard back. I consulted a friend of mine who’s a lawyer for the Surfrider Foundation in order to understand my rights and try to open negotiations with Rob’s manager to a) sell the film back them b) come to some amicable split of the profits- neither of which were ever achieved. I never “sued” Rob and out of respect for him I haven’t released any of the footage (not yet anyway) despite having the full right to do so under US copyright law and being nearly 50 grand in the hole. Your accusations are baseless and I’m going keep the stash as it took my facial follicles 24 years to muster enough hairs to enrage you and the girl I’m seeing thinks its cute. If anyone has any further questions about my business or my mustache you can email me at cyrus@cyrussutton.com– just be sure to leave your name- no more of this anonymous bullshit.

A mature response. Kind of disillusioning. You mean surfers have lawyers? You mean sould dudes with afros are also businessmen? Woe.Whoa. Wow.

A 70/30 deal is unfair. Machado benefits from surf films because those films promote the Cult of Rob, his surf films sell Machado model surfboards, signature trunks and shoes and sandals. Cyrus gets his paycheck from ticket and DVD sales, assuming the film actually turns a profit (how many of you own bootleg surf DVDs?). How many Channel Islands Machado model single fins did the movie Riding Waves sell?

The best solution would be for Hurley/Nike to purchase the footage in dispute and produce Rob’s film from now on.

Way to go Cyrus! Not only have you made a great film: Riding Waves, but your new flick: Under the Sun is awesome. I was at the sold out premier at the Newport Beach Film Festival and was hooting with the best of them at the glorious footage, driving music and intense interviews.

Anon says: wow don’t forget Cyrus about the fact that you lived on his property rent free and your so called travel expenses were paid in full by Rob. Trip to Tavarua, Chile etc. People can jump on your bandwagon defense but you know what the actual truth is. It is funny because now you are ready to be confrontive about the matter…now you are exposed and trying to take the high road. It is really sad that you are…excuse me “were” ever in any legal matter with Rob due to his hospitality. YOU TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE and you can respond to this if you want but I am done expending anymore energy on this. I hope i run into you soon because then i will gladly have a nice verbal conversation without all of this internet here. Don’t worry I have kids and a wife and would not subject them to wasting any amount of energy towards a physical confrontation. Why don’t you just go away and have an issue with Rasta because you are not getting your money…RIGHT???? You are REALLY a disappointment to the human race…. not angry at all just, sad because of your actions.

Cyrus did not live rent free at Rob’ place! He paid rent for everyday there and he got no free trips anywhere. This is crazy has no place in the surfing world. Why start all of this kind of crap talk?

WTF does any of this have to do with anything? Go gossip at the hair salon with the rest of the girls.

cyrus again- no high roads here.

    1) I paid rent to live the back of Rob’s house, a fair price which I split with my room mate who will vouch.

    2) We took 4 trips. Rob paid for tavy air/board, I paid film- the waves were flat though. I paid my way and film to NZ. Same with Chile and Hawaii with the exception of a few free nights his house on the north shore- I have all receipts in case you wish to audit me.

    3) Rasta and I are friends. He stopped by the other night in SD and we had a yak over dinner.

I’m not going to slander you (even if I knew who you were) or Rob. Just defending myself. I’m not claiming I’ve ever been “right” in my life. I’ve made a shit load of mistakes and learned from them. I’m not too concerned with money as evidenced by my bank balance.

    So again you’re punching air.

From your first post I would have pegged you as a misguided underclassmen I must have hit with a stray tatter tot in high school. But from your knowledge of the trips we took, you are obviously an acquaintance of Rob’s with a slanted view and a lot of pent up anger.

I’ll meet you anytime anywhere (as long as u pay for my gas) to maybe balance your perspective on the deal and relieve some of your tension.

Once there was this girl who
Wouldn’t go and change with the girls in the change room
But when they finally made her
They saw birthmarks all over her body
    She couldn’t quite explain it
    They’d always just been there

Cyrus is one of most talented and hardworking young surfers out there. He, like everyone else on this planet needs support and just a chance to create beautiful films that say something. His last film, Riding Waves was a classic and I am sure this new one will carry on that same tradition.
