Randall had a board with “GOLETA” airbrushed in big block letters under the glass on the bottom of his board. His switchfoot tube to goofy cutback is classic.

Stoker waves to the cam 🙂

Stoker V-Machines work from 1′ to double overhead. The board with ‘Goleta’ on the bottom was spray painted on in my backyard in 1999. It was a longboard, not a V -Machine. If you can tell what stance he is naturally you are one of the few.
My favorite surfer of all time!

Surfy Surfy: I met Randall when I was on the North Shore in December, surfed one good session at Chun’s with him, and had several riotous conversations about Santa Barbara and music. He’s gotta be the only shaper who’s a direct descendent of Greenough and McTavish. Rory Wicks

Rory……. Randall is NOT the shaper. He originated this design many years back with the help of Jeff Kruthers,a long time friend and an excellent surfer living at Hollister Ranch. Many shapers have been incorporated along the way until Randy and I hooked up again and I took over the program for him, shaping, refining, and finishing the boards. I also trademarked the Stoker V Machine as it had become a pretty convoluted deal, and he needed label protection. We are currently expanding the dealer network to NJ, Hawaii, and CA, and the new boards on Facebook are from me. Deadshaper aka Bruce Fowler. P.S. Be looking for an upcoming article in Surfers Journal on the Stoker V Machine…… 😉

What’s weird is having “Backyard Boards” made in China. That’s a pretty big ‘backyard”. The surfboard industry is full of copycats. I’ve learned over 40 yrs. that it is very much a “monkey see, monkey do” business. Branding has become a big deal, which I hate to see, but you go along for the ride if you have to pay a mortgage and feed the kids.
