September 18, 2007Nice racist event. You should be proud. Mix in a few leaf blowers and lawn mowers and I think you’ve got it.
Josh
September 18, 2007I suppose you all ate beans for lunch. Racist white people.
Anonymous
September 18, 2007Josh you are the real racist. Are you saying only Mexicans eat beans? If I eat a bean and cheese burrito from Juanitas that makes me racist? You are the real racist my friend.
Josh
September 18, 2007I’m a mexican american. I’ll nacho libre your ass in the water pandejo. I’m sure you are wondering how I have a name like Joshua and be hispanic. Well, I had a family conversion to Judaism and they named me Joshua. Which is like being named Jesus but in hebrew. So in your white conservative minds that would make me greedy and stupid. Watch out you NRA loving KKK robe wearing surfers, in a few generations which isn’t long for us beaners we will own you and your southern calif white asses just by a numbers game.
aye caramba
September 19, 2007Sounds like Josh is one of those angry Azatlan La Raza racist freaks.

September 19, 2007YOU HAVE TO BE A TOTAL IDIOT TO THINK THAT CONTEST WAS RACIST. LEUCADIA HAS A HUGE HISPANIC POPULATION STUPID.
JP
September 19, 2007Considering the background of the local contestants, growing up as a minority white surfer kids in Hispanic neighborhoods back when Leucadia was heavily an agricultural town, I’d say the accusations of racism are far fetched and reactionary.

September 19, 2007PINCHE GABACHO! Ahhh this is great…we’ve got racist TFAD, a matzo bean named josh, and the most whte washed vato on the planet right here. Luchadores will be the first ones to laugh and appreciate that some white dude surfer thinks their whole schtik is cool. But yes, we are taking over…first, roach coaches just outside the suburbs…second…we become teachers and ruin the english language…..thrid….hell with third….DODGERS Y RAIDERS POR VIDA!

September 19, 2007Why not go black face for your next contest. What have you done for the mexican community? Buy burritos from juanitas and hire them to clean your house and now you make fun of them. Shame

September 19, 2007Well said JP. Well said.
Best,

September 19, 2007So, only Mexicans are allowed to wear those mask? You must be really pissed that African-Americans and women are racing in NASCAR these days.
*sigh*

September 19, 2007The mere fact that you don’t notice that your event could be offensive and insensitive is very bothering to me. And I’m a friend of yours who is too weak to be public on this issue. Shame on me.

September 19, 2007I know it’s linguistics but what exactly is the difference between being racist and culturally insensitive.
I have to admit the presentation of the pictures was a bit unsettling. Especially the pic of Zapata and the Candles in juxtaposition of a girl with maracas and then masked surfers in speedos. It’s a little like having a confederate flag sticker on your car and not really knowing what it represents. I think it might be the blatant ignorance that bother some people.
On the other hand I had a good little surf session at my lunch break today. It’s good for an old man like myself to have a nooner with no one out. It puts things in perspective.
Peace to all.
Leucadia Luchadore
September 20, 2007This Halloween when all the Mexican kids come to my door wearing Spider Man costumes I’m going to accuse them of racism because everyone knows that Peter Parker was white.
Wake up people, wrestling isn’t real. It’s a joke.

September 20, 2007To the Leucadia Luchadore and your friend who made the comment about the fat little mexican.
Your comments are insensitive and frankly stupid.
Their Kids Wearing the costumes! And most likely a white capitalist made them. They are kids!! Not adults acting insensitive and moronic!
norcal goofyfoot
September 20, 2007The moral of the story here is that white surfers are not allowed to be fans of lucha wrestling. It is for latinos only. America was once a melting pot but the racist activist who burn American flags at the border don’t want it. My wife is from Peru and she thinks lucha and American wrestling is moronic and she is right.

hmm… racist implies there was an overt attempt to degrade through hatred. i don’t see that at the link you posted. what i do see are a bunch of people perhaps being a bit culturally insensitive while playing dress up, but with no real malice behind it. i think they really like the masks. but that’s just my take.

September 21, 2007Maybe if we let the mexicans have a casino or two they would stop their crying.

September 21, 2007Throwing the race card at Lucha de Surf… Racist? Are you freaking kidding me?
I’m amazed that someone would politicize this event. Never could I have imagined someone injecting phrases like “…white capitalist…” “…political right neocon answer…” and “…black face…” into Lucha de Surf.
The event was a fun day at the beach, that’s all. You are possibly the most sensitive, politically correct person in the world.
If diversity, tolerance, and multiculturalism mean no more Lucha de Surf, the world has come to an end.
By the way, the demographics of Leucadia, contestants’ ethnicity, and where someone’s grandfather came from aren’t necessary prerequisites to criticize Mr. Anonymous. Speaking out against politically correct lunacy doesn’t require non-white street cred. Anyone can, and should do it.
You need to get off the MEChA and socialism.com websites and come down to planet earth. Incidentally, the computer I am writing this on is provided to me by a capitalist undoubtedly. I don’t know if he is white or not, but I am pretty sure that every demographic is well represented by their shareholders.
If you want to find a real group of racists, go to the next MEChA rally at SDSU. You can chant “¡La Raza!” with all of the other Hispanic Klan members as you plan your summer excursion to North Korea.
I frankly find your comments intolerant and insensitive. Shame on you for throwing the race card at Lucha de Surf.
Quotes from Emiliano Zapata himself:
Los que no tengan miedo que pasen a firmar
¡Tierra y Libertad!

September 21, 2007So crazy to pull the race card on this one. Did you really go there my brother? Dont even get me started on how un racist this is. How do you know what the race of the paticipants is any way. Grow up, we are all brown! I guess you did not go to the previous lucha de surf events… Any way I was just wondering what you think about white people eating california burritos, what the fuck is that? Also, I am wondering, do mexicans eat kosher hamburgers? Is there such a thing? Also I just want to be clear on everything, What makes me more mexican than you? If I have to get more barrels than you in Mexico at a wide variety of breaks I am 100 percent positve I have!!! What percentage blood do I have to be to claim I am a certain race? Please clarify, because last time I checked we were all having fun surfing.

September 21, 2007People of color will definitely, definitely become the power base in the Western Hemisphere.
I believe that Gandhi was correct. Non-violent civil disobedience is the only way to bring about change that allows people to enjoy the change and not get hurt in the process.
Right now, the Anglo people are desperately trying to hold on to the United States, like they tried to hold on to Africa.

September 23, 2007Just a few questions that may help define this debate:
1) Does any nation/race/religion hold professional wrestling as an example of it’s cultural identity and values?
2) Are religious symbols confined to a singular interpretation, or are there many?
3) Isn’t imitation the greatest form of flattery?
4) When the “numbers” eventually overwhelm, will they be as intolerant as they appear to be in this conversation?
5) Does Josh need therapy?

September 23, 2007I’m curious, racism aside does anyone think that it is ever so slightly culturally insensitive? Even in the most minimal slight way?

September 23, 2007What ever!
I like this country...
September 24, 2007Josh and anonymous, you guys are fucking idiots! My friend and I who helped put on the contest, and won both times, are part mexican ourselves. All this was, and will continue to be is a fun, exciting gathering among friends at one of our beloved local beaches. Friends that come from many backgrounds and races.
It really just sounds like you don’t like this country and the freedoms we all have to do things like lucha de surf, thus the reason why you and your socialist, communist, nazi friends are trying to change it. TRUE liberals used to say “I don’t agree with what you are saying, but I’ll defend your right to say it.” Its funny that there are a lot of people out there probably a lot like yourselves that think they are liberal, but are actually more socialist or communist and might not even know it. So why don’t you take your Che tee-shirt and fucking leave! We don’t want you here, and you don’t even want to be here. Move to N. Korea or Cuba or China where everything is sooo wonderful. For the rest of us, we like it just how it is. We AMERICANS with some Mexican, or French, or Scottish, or English decent have to go plan Lucha de Surf 2008, its gonna be so much fun!

September 26, 2007mmmm burritos. i love burritos. i love them! you ever had a burrito in mexico? real mexico that is. you know , at least one hundred miles south of any u.s. border? doubt it. i had a burrito today. i guess that means i am culturally insensitive, since they’re like, fake mexican food. but they’re just sooo good! actually, now that i think about it, maybe that makes me a homosexual racist! oh well, it’s worth it. i love burritos!
