From soulful to hipster and yuppie.
The grotto was dirty and the owner was a dishonest asshole. Thank you surfy for revitalizing that blighted corner of Leucadia.
Bring back Leucadia Surf & Ski.
Bring back the Rock Garden music store.
Bring back Roy’s Market.
Bring back the Greyhound bus station.

McRibs is back…. Hung Over in the house…. so necessary. So let’s exchange hoes and and go.
The sun always shines on surfy people in this revitalized corner of our father’s homeland. Long live Surfy Surfy with Cafe and the SSS.
BTW: The Grotto had a mass of cool stuff. It was just really moldy, aaaachoooooo!@
other than the last guy’s post, I think the rest of the posts were the same person. Its a shame such a cool blog gets ruined by idiots looking for attention.
Let me guess you’re a democrat
Surfy Surfy makes it’s own surfboards. Coffee Coffee makes it’s own coffee. The people give it soul.
i never have really gotten the name surfy surfy? with all do sincere respect did a family teenage girl come up with the name, or a family child? or is the owner a surfy surfy a woman? if so that would make sense… the name seems gay or gayety to me. every time i hear it it’s like faggy faggy or something. not trying to be a jerk, just being honest…
Yo Gabba Gabba
We want dirty surf shops that look and feel like a surf shop with sand, dirt, dust, etc, etc. Not a “surf boutique!” from Rancho Mirage! Bring back the Birdwell beach britches and all the old name old school long boards!
Again, The same guy posting his negativity. Didn’t your NANNY ever tell you if you don’t have something nice to say KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT?
Okay, we will jump into the fray.
Yuppies? That is pretty funny considering we were the ones who made the infamous DIE YUPPIE SCUM stickers in our high school screenprinting class back in the 1986.
And geez guys, you do realize the entire Surfy crew is poor white trash right? We don’t have any money. The Moonlight Glassing crew lives in a neighborhood called Tortilla Flats. Surfy founder J.P. lives in a freaking trailer park for heaven’s sake. It’s a miracle we are not all on meth.
Followers of the Leucadia Blog know that our historic 1926 building was in threat of being seized by eminent domain and bulldozed. The Surfy crew fought the city council and won. We all grew up within walking distance of this building and feel a responsibility towards keeping our historic 101 business corridor alive.
Sandy bare feet is always welcome.
As for the name Surfy Surfy, we will go over that one another time.
I tried to name the shop “extreme agro hardcore ripping slasher heavy metal chinese surfboard ville”, but alas, it was voted down.
It’s so hipster how the girl who works there has her daughter doing homework behind the counter.
A wonderful testament to our passion for wave riding is found in the evolutionary metamorphosis of our language to accommodate and promulgate that essence into an adjective. Surfy, upon hearing it roll of my tongue I remember feeling the bed seemingly undulate under me after being in the water all day. While slipping into the dream world on those nights I felt very surfy. One may also feel very surfy when listening to someone recount their best wave of the day. This is very avant garde. One always wants more of a good thing, and surf is that. Surfy the adjective by extension is good as well. Therefore, I would love to have more surfy things in my life. My pleasure is doubled when I repeat the adjective in a syncopated rythm. I smile broader and my mind is freed. VIVA SURFY SURFY!
Either you are surfy or you are not. Some are blessed to be extra surfy!
The Longboard Grotto was cool, kinda like my garage on steroids. But Surfy Surfy is waaaay cooler, so surfy, they named it twice. And I like the artistic vibe and the community building with music. (Cheap date nite) And now coffee. Whats not to love???
Oweee. Mee rika surfy surfy. Issa Jap thang.
Man it don’t roll off my tongue when I say Surfy, fact my top front teeth hit my bottom LIP! Viva Chapstick…
adjective in a syncopated rhythm?? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHERE 1 is!what ah fruit!
haters gonna hate
Stupid hipsters creating jobs in a bad recession in a neglected part of town. You suck.
i love haters
The irony is Sam who owned the Longboard Grotto is a wealthy trustfunder who kept the Grotto dirty on purpose. The Surfy crew are all poor working class people who keep it clean.
JP’s shop and coffee concern yuppie? Hipster? Hardly. If you don’t like it, don’t shop there. Grass roots and local doesn’t have to mean under-designed.Sam a trust funder? Bullshit. A risk taker and gnarly horse trader? All day long.Epic sense of humor, too.Started his deal with money saved from working as a carny at the Del Mar Fair. Not a red cent from dad. Only red hair.Took a gamble, bought the building and a little house and rode the market up. Kicked out moments before the close-out. Killed it. Set for life. If modest.God damn a hater.Keep up the good work, JP.-Uncle Mace
” If I don’t like it don’t shop there.” Your MF RIGHT!! and I will tell 6 friends and they will to tell 6 friends and they will tell 6 friends. LET ME TELL YOU WHY! When Surfy Surfy first open it’s doors I believe it was on a Fri, so i went in the following Monday, thought it wouldn’t be crowded, I had 1,237.00 cash in my pocket to pick up a new board and possible a spring suit. Well it wasn’t crowded, in fact i was the only one in there, there were 3 people working in there not one of em could even bother looking at me, not one of em said hi- nothing. I was grabbing a rail of a board I was interested in kinda pulling it out, and looked at one of the workers… again nothing? So I split. Benefit of the doubt , i returned a week later on again on a Monday, I don’t know if it was because it was the most overcast summer of all time or what? But again only one in there and no body gave me the time of day! Sorry but i’m old school and the way I was brought up; let’s just say a lot different then that BS. So yea I miss the Longboard Grotto, those guys were cool and friendly, when you walked in they actually said “hey hows it going to day.”Any way scored scored a new board, in a shop two cities away and ended up ordering a second. No BS. So yea I don’t like it and yea I WILL NOT SHOP THERE, YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE $$$$.00 ON THAT ONE! Good luck, & Peace
Are you going to stay angry and anonymous the rest of your life ?Why not make an appt. with the manager and have a civil dialog about your complaint ?
Make an appt, to TEACH someone proper manners and good business practices? …Charm School.
Were you the creepy vibey guy everybody was afraid to talk to because they thought you were going to pull out a gun and kill them? Good times.
Are we talking about the same shop were the guy let me borrow his personal board to demo for a week and I when I returned it with a ding he wasn’t bummed at all and didn’t charge me for it?
and 18 months later you are still angrily stalking their blog while everyone else has been attending their cheap date nights with cool local bands and drinking free beer.
No I am not “a creepy vibey guy with a gun,” I’m a female, and no I’m not fat and ugly, like I know your gonna say… Good luck, & Peace
interesting how people get so defensive? if someone had one bad experience at something so what. (or in this case two?) seems like your making it worse…thought it was good for people to vent? just my two cents.
Isn’t this the site that Hates Dane Reynolds?
