Amber Fish up for Grabs

Saturday, July 21, 2012

Here is a super clean "used" board. It's in flawless condition. We've seen new boards in big corpo surf chains with more dents than this thing.
5'10" x 20 1/4" x 2 5/8"
Gary Hanel  performance quad fish, with smooth resin tint by Gary Stuber at Moonlight Glassing.
Built November 2011.
Features a rare set of 101 Fin Co. bamboo fins for the Lokbox fin system.
Purist will hate the rear foot traction pad, but it's fairly minimalist and if you plant your back foot dead center in that fin cluster you are going to crack the lip so hard it's relatives will track you down for revenge.
For sale at Surfy Surfy for $550.00

6'3" California Quad

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Here ya go: slightly used California Quad handshaped by underground surfboard industry hero Marlin Bacon.
6'3" x 19 7/8" x 2 1/2"
Featuring glass-on bamboo fins handmade by Marlin himself.
The California Quad is a great combo of performance and grovel.
Pump thru the fat part of the wave into the oncoming section and crack the lip with speed and control. Yeah!
No dings at all. Very mild deck dents. Basically a new board with a spiffy new traction pad.
Available at Surfy Surfy Surf Shop.
$450

Point Break Puppy

Saturday, January 16, 2010

Randy Scherer in O.B. San Diego shapes smooth surfboards and lets us glass them sometimes. He sez:

9'6" x 23" x 3.125"

I used a Surfblanks America red foam blank with a cedar/bass/cedar t-band. The shape was inspired by Tyler's "The Point" model, assorted Bing pintails, and a Hobie Phil Edwards model. 50/50 rails transition into a hard tail.

Marlin Bacon created a custom 9.5" bamboo fin by taking the template from a fin I like and modifying it for a bit more drive.

The glass is 7.5 oz volan over 6 oz s-glass on the deck and 7.5 oz volan on the bottom, green resin stripes in the lam, double pin line, gloss & polish.
