This custom Thumb for Nick is unique. It has the ultra rare, impossible to find, curved Turbo Bonzer siderunners for the Lokbox fin system AND an authentic 101 Fin Co bamboo Bonzer center fin. That's just crazy insane!
Any guidance on what size thumbs work up to? I am thinking of a board for slower waves and for an ageing 200lbs surfer who likes to ride anything with enough volume. Everyday board is currently a battered 6'6"x23"x3" fishy quad, with a little too much volume.
This is a standard issue 5'9" Thumb. The fins belong to Nick who has held onto them for years. Another example of good surf hoarding. I will have to consult with Peter Pinline on how big we can make Thumbs
"Turbo" fins are curved side fins that Rainbow Fin Comused to make for Lokbox. The turbo speedialers still have a cult following and are still the best quad fins I've ever ridden. My Thumb from 2005 originally had turbo Bonzer fins but have vanished along with all my other rare and collectible fins. Poached by neighbors and bros. Malcolm Campbell finishes our Thumbs off A pre-cut from a scan of the original Thumb. The Thumb looks like it shouldn't work, but it's the best board in the world.
The dims are covered with wax but it's definitely 5'9" x wider than 20" x possibly 3". So far it is a 5'9" noseriding machine, paddles into waves *really* easily and has only been ridden backside, whoa. Thanks again JP!
That board looks awesome. I guarantee a QFR (quick fin release) in the center fin will help dial that board in to find the perfect sweet spot. Please check out qfrfins.com when you get a chance
Beautiful...size?

Doesn't Takayama make a board like this? Scorpion or something?
ReplyDeleteThe Scorpion is actually quite different, The subtleties of the Thumb don't always translate online.
DeleteWhat happens if you try to ride it as a quad? I am guessing that you have tried JP?
DeleteLet's not get crazy now.
DeleteSo any info on how big they can go?
