Glass-on Tri to Lokbox Quad Conversion

Tony bought this 6'6" Christenson off Craigslist and brought it to the shop to have our ding surgeon JJR chop off the bamboo glass-on fins (gosh!) and convert it into a Lokbox quad.
If you have any special projects like this in need drop it off at Surfy Surfy and JJR will do it up for you.

Point and Shoot

8'0" x 22 1/2" x 3"
Handshaped by Mike Slingerland (meaning he made the template himself, cut the outline out with a handsaw, planed it with a Skil 100, then foiled it a sandpaper block and dialed it in with a screen. Call it crazy, old school or antiquated but that is the way we roll down here by the beach).
"Coke bottle" blue tint by Gary Stuber at Moonlight Glassing.
2+1 setup with classy matching white fin boxes.
Shown with 7" Rusty fin by Rainbow Fin Co. for power and drive.
Put a flex fin in it if ya want.
Shoot it down-da-line and point it where you want to go...

New Bodysurfing flick: Come Hell or High Water

Surfy Surfy loves bodysurfing. Surfy Surfy loves surf movies. Surfy Surfy is skeptical that a surf movie about bodysurfing won't be total hipster dreck. But Surfy Surfy loves the Malloys and everything they do so we are going to see this.
Premieres Friday Sept. 23 at the La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas, CA.
Doors open at 7 pm. Movie at 8 pm.
Movie tour schedule: www.woodshed.com/news-events

Where is he now?

The infamous Grotto Indian. Sometimes after hours when the Surfy staff is doing inventory we hear things that go bump in the night.

The Surfy Surfboard Oil Change and Tune Up Service

Surfy Shop Grom Jared with before and after Surfy Surfboard Oil Change and Tune Up on a 25 year old Sunset kneeboard.

Surfy Surfy Surf Shop offers a nifty surfboard tune up service. Our handy shop groms will change your oil (scrape off that thick yucky black wax that is adding 2 lbs to your board), remove old tailpads, make sure your fins are screwed in properly and assess if you have the correct fins for your needs, clean up the bottom of your board and fix small dings with uv resin. Usually same day turnaround.
Price for this service starts at $20, includes two fresh bars of wax (basecoat and your desired temp).
Prices vary for serious dings or full restorations.

Taped Off Tri-Fin

This Gary Hanel custom surfboard for Peter St Pierre just might have to become a Surfy Surfy shop model. It's super intriguing. Dig the outline and the cutaway Bonzer siderunner.
Maybe we will offer a center box option...maybe.

New York Surf Rules

The above videos are from the Quiksilver Pro New York held in good quality surf.
Surfy Surfy has always been New York surf friendly and now the rest of the surfing universe knows New York gets fun waves.
Burning question for the old school New York surfers, was this mega-contest positive for New York surf culture or are you bummed on the hype?

Once a Rub Out Guy always a Rub Out Guy

From Peter St Pierre's Taped Off Blog,

Once a Rubout Guy always a Rubout Guy. John Smith finishing his Slingerland noserider in preperation for an extended stay at a certain Baja pointbreak. I've known John for over forty years he started Ocean Pacific surfboards in the sixties went on to start Destination Surf and now owns Baja Winters taking snowbirds on RV tours of the Baja Peninsula. John and I have more in common than being old fart surfers who still froth over a new board. One of his daughters is married to my son [JP St Pierre of Surfy Surfy] and we share grandpa duty with a couple of wild Groms. Once a Rubout Guy always a Rubout Guy.

Bottom photo by Rebecca Smith.
*Rub Out Guy is surfboard industry slang for the polisher. The Rub Out Guy makes your surfboards shiny in the Rub Out Room.

Dustin's Baja Bonzer5

On Wednesday August 24th we posted a photo of Dustin Smith getting slotted at a Baja point on his Campbell Brothers 5 fin Bonzer semi-gun. We couldn't find the archive photos of this board on the external hard drive so we had no choice but to drive 15 hours south to Dusty's Baja pad to shot a proper blog post of this board.
Luckily we scored some choice surf while we were there.
Of course, we forgot to note the dims. Guessing it's 6'8" x 18 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Note the round safety nose, mini swallow tail, Red-X fin system and 80's/90's transition logos.
Dustin has been running the 6" Bonzer center fin in this board so we left him a 6.5" True Ames Hexcore fin for 4th Point pumpers.
