Bird's Surf Shed on American Pickers

Friday, April 29, 2011

Eric "Bird" Huffman's new project is the incredible Bird's Surf Shed. A restored quonset hut filled with his impressive collection of historically significant surfboards. The highly entertaining television show American Pickers paid him a visit (about the 16 minute mark).
*Bird has been a big supporter of Surfy Surfy and we can't thank him enough

The Brownfish Bodysurfing Handplane

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Great bodysurfing shot by Jason Kenworthy via the ESPN surf blog.

Surfy Surfy Team Rider Gary Murphy has been handcrafting these super cool bodysurfing handplanes for awhile now. He has them totally dialed, featuring a really sweet adjustable strap. They are handshaped out of Paulownia wood which is super light and floaty (it's what they make Alaia's out of).
Bodysurfing has grown in recent popularity which is a good thing. It gets in the water everyday, gets you tuned in with the ocean and gets you heaps 'o barrels.
The trick thing about these handplanes is that you can actually bodysurf mushy waves with them (which is more fun than it sounds).
For more handplane stuff visit the Handplane Goodness blog.
Brownfish Handplanes are now for sale on the Surfy Surfy online store.

My Hawaii - Taylor Knox from Shorty on Vimeo.

Surfy Surfy secret team rider Taylor Knox is featured in this short video about surfing in Hawaii. Nice hi-def barrels and a little bit of Bonzer footage in there for good measure.
"Shorty" has a series of these videos, like this one about Mick Fanning and an entertaining one with Matt Wilkinson.

Surf Mom Tribute Art

Monday, April 25, 2011

This piece of guerrilla art appeared under the train trestle at Encinitas Blvd and Hwy 101 in the city of Encinitas. The artist or team of artist are currently unknown. Mistaken as a painted mural at first glance the piece is actually a very intricate mosaic.
The city of Encinitas will most likely remove it before too long so if you are in the area stop and take a look.

New Surfy Online Store is Go!

Monday, April 18, 2011

Hello internet amigos,
As the brick and mortar Surfy Surfy Surf Shop approaches it's 1 year anniversary (May 1st) it's time to get back to our digital roots and launch our new and improved online store. Like Surfy Surfy it's a work in progress, but we think you will find some things to enjoy (like all new exclusive Surfy Surfy t-shirts!)
Click here to view the new Surfy Surfy Online Store

Our number one request is for an online source to view our stock boards for sale. This is a work in progress so thank you in advance for your patience.

The new store has more features and doesn't require the often maligned PayPal like the previous store. Checking out will be much easier and seamless.

Due to the popularity of our Tyler Warren/Surfy Surfy tee we did a reprint for the launch of the new store. This time we printed it on a more beefy style tee instead of the hipster slim fit. 100% organic cotton as well. Hooray! Click to view
As always, we are humbled and blown away by the world wide support we have received from you kind people. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Lost & Found

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Via Jed Stuber, "I wanted to send you this link that I thought you might like, a filmmaker I know [Doug Walker] came across a bunch of surfing photos at the pasadena rose bowl, he started to make a movie about the photos and has got some really great interviews with a bunch of legends.. And the photos are unbelievable. Some haven't been seen for 30+ years! Any how, here is a link to the blog that he's doing while making the film. Hope you like it."
