On September 1st we blogged about an old GH bonzer that made it's way into the shop with the mysterious intials G.C. (click me)
The mysterious G.C is Greg Crosthwaite. The board is back in his possession. He says he loaned it to a buddy years ago and the board had been stolen. Closure!

Shape and Fins

Monday, September 27, 2010

California Quad: 5'11" x 19 1/8" x 2 1/4"
This surfboard was shaped by Marlin Bacon. Marlin is a good shaper. He likes to make performance shortboards because he himself surfs good. He also made the fins. They are bamboo which are light and strong and have performance flex characteristics. Marlin's fin company is called 101 Fin Co. He doesn't promote his surfboard label at all. He is more of a behind the scenes kind of industry guy. We here at Surfy Surfy are big Marlin Bacon fans and encourage you all to ride his boards and fins. Thank you.

Surfing the Aqua Sea on a GH fishy

From wave hound Kevin Arnold,
My Mexico adventure was epic cubed: a triad of of surging, morphing, and mind-warpingly fun waves; and all the while my Commander Hanel quads and twins were sculpting and playing upon waves with psychic ease and intuitive flow. Thanks for the all interstellar overdrive and my special surfysurfy flux capacitor, cruising through space-time with pure, undifferentiated, howling stoke!!!

Green Burger

Friday, September 24, 2010

Surfy Surfy Surf Shop exclusive! We are the only place in the world where you can find 21st century Shrosburgers. Handshaped by the legend Mr. Bill Shrosbree. The original Shrosburger single fins were a huge hit out of Sunset Surfboards in Encinitas in the 1970s. The Shrosburger has returned as a multi-fin board and we are stoked.
The Shrosburger carries the foam out to the rail, so for you guys who like the extra float, your worries are over.
This 'burger is 6'8" length x 20 1/4" width x 2 3/4" thickness.
Cool green 5/4 oz combo resin tint by Gary Stuber at Moonlight Glassing.
Hooray!

Surfers need Surfboards to Surf

Thursday, September 23, 2010

A week before we opened Surfy Surfy Surf Shop a rep from an import surfboard company burst through the door uninvited. He gave me the hard sell on carrying his low cost/low quality pop-out surfboards. When I explained the concept and the mission of Surfy Surfy, that we were here to give a venue to skilled local and underground shapers, he scoffed and said it would never work.
Forward 5 months later and we have pretty much sold through our entire stock of Bob Harvey surfboards. Who, you ask? Bob Harvey is an under-underground shaper from Carlsbad who has been handshaping clean boards for decades. His user friendly designs and affordable shaping fee have been a big hit in the shop.
This one is a clean single wing 7'0" Big Guy Quad Fish. 21 1/2" wide and 2 7/8" thick. Cool blue and black resin swirl tint by Gary Stuber on the bottom with snappy pinlines on the deck by Peter St Pierre. 5/4 oz glassing for quality. The handy Lokbox fin system allows for travel and fin placement adjustments. Finish it off with a gloss and polish and you get a lot of board at a good price.
Surfers making quality surfboards for their fellow surfers is what Surfy Surfy is all about. Thanks for the support!

5'5" Fatty Fish

Thursday, September 16, 2010

The classic twin keel Fish brought to you by twenty-something whippersnapper, D.J. Kane. Relocated from his mom's front porch in Ocala, Florida to downtown funky Leucadia, California, D.J. has become the go to shaper for performance minded retro enthusiast internet surf junkies.
This hot little 5'5" is D.J.'s take on the classic keel fish. Think speed hauling through the mush section and laying down a big solid turn on the inside sandbar. Built with the only practical working fin system for keels, the Lokbox means you can slip this puppy into your travel bag so you won't wishing you had your Fish when you are 1000 miles away from home.
Available at Surfy Surfy Surf Shop. Also in stock is an identical 5'8".
