Chris Christenson shaped me a new board today, a 9'0" glideresque swallowtail. Hmm, this might actually work, We'll finish it after lunch... Small glassy waves beware!
Swallowtails on longboards are rare but they are functional. They keep the rail line in the water instead of breaking away. It's like having 2 pintails.
Thats a Frye influenced glider NOT a longboard. Skip's been making and surfing those for quite some time. they use a single into a double concave/v..you don't ride the nose on those boards..they're all about glide, speed and trim.
That's most likely a hand shape which Chris does a hell of alot of. The reason for the clean walls is probably because chris is one of the most tidy, organized, hard working people in the business..i would know because I'm on the east coast and he calls me at 8am my time to chat when he gets to his shop!
JP, chris made me an 11' footer and its one of the best boards i've ever had! makes a knee high day feel special! Have fun!
why a swallow tail in a longboard?
ReplyDeletemakes no sense
is not functional only for aesthetics reasons..
and is that a machined shape then finished by the guy?
because Im wondering how clean are the pictures in the wall
thanks
Its a longboard...as long as it catches small waves who cares.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a roughed out blank to me.
swallowtails work on longboards, watch rasta on this link on his "first hand bio"
