Sliding Liberia



Primo Beer, Café Haleiwa and the Bonzer Front present the O’ahu Premier of Sliding Liberia on Liberian Independence Day, Saturday, July 26, starting at 5PM in Historic Haleiwa, on the north shore of Oahu.

Local award winning cinematographer and Director of Photography Dave Homcy (Shelter, A Brokedown Melody, Surfwise) along with Hawaii born activist and water woman Crystal Thornburg (featured surfer) will be presenting the film.

This “GREEN” event will include, West African food by Café Haleiwa, Music by soundtrack musician Jon Swift, West and South African music performed by: Reggae McGowen & Benjamin Sands of Badenyaa African Diaspora Dance Theater joined by Kapono Ciotti of Jamerek. Other musical performers include: Kelli Heath (of the Girlas) and Hope Atz. This event is sponsored by: Primo Beer, Patagonia, Nui Water, and TR3EES.

    When will pro surfers take their heads out of their asses and realize that a few soulful turns on 16mm film doesn't really change anything. I guess you can argue that in brings abit of awarness to the situation at hand, but overall its all talk in the surfing community, which really sucks. Look how long its taking to get that damn fishing boat off the reef at Padang. Its funny that rip curl and other big corporate surf companies can front the cash to run a WCT contest in the middle of nowhere out in Indonesia, but there has been no attempt by them to take the lead and get this thing off the reef depite using it as a venue for many of ther contests in the past. Ok... before I go off on another tangent, here is a little something to chew on. Rather than riding a few barrels in the name of peace it would be nice to see surfers being proactive about making a change.

  5. Saw the slideshow at Patagonia and the movie at La Paloma..Good stuff for sure. Well worth every penny and all of your time spent there sitting.
