Stuff You Didn't Know You Need

My friend Lisa makes these handy wetsuit widget thingies. I have one therefore you need one too. Be a hero, get one for your surfer friends for Christmas: Cinch Sac wetsuit bag and changing mat.

Lisa does wetsuit repair too.

A dear longtime friend of mine, Jane Schmauss recently co-authored a new book called Surfing in San Diego.

It has lots of cool, rare and never before seen photos of all the old local surf coots back when they were young trailblazers. Before wetsuits when men were men, woman were woman and surfboards weren't pink rubber with floral prints.

Jane is also the Acting Director of the California Surf Museum in Oceanside. Go check it out sometime.

  2. Just got to see this book yesterday. Cool stuff. Nice picture of workspace neighbor Nick Mirandon at Black's circa 1965. I haven't shown him the picture yet but he'll be stoked!

  3. Thanks for the pub, Surfy. Folks at and friends with the California Surf Museum worked hard on this book so that the history of surfing in SD and hardcore characters that made it happen will never be forgotten. Everyone is pretty stoked on the book and what it stands for.

  4. Those changing mat pictures are offensive. Why not have some fat dude with a can of Bud in his hand and his crack showing.

  6. Actually those sacks are pretty cool. My buddy has one and it's perfect for the Trestles run, which we do often. Never thought to ask where he got it. Thanks.

  8. The girl using the changing mat is a local surfer girl and is well liked. Don't hate her because she is beautiful and surfs better than you.

  9. alice they kept it discrete with the photos being small, an active woman(she looks competent, clear headed and on her own path)instead of some cheerleader (wowed by someone elses goal) so while i see a potential for lurid internut gawkers, i thought it was well... acomplished suitibly.

the stadium pal website used to be a great laugh with guys being
really stupid now there is the
http://www.thebeerbelly.com if they neuter and pull the photos - well- it just lacks delivery.

so alice its good your keepin your gaurd up but wait for the right time to swing.

i cobbled together something not as slick for up here in orca country

  11. Jane,

Are you reading this? Your No. 1 top favorite columnist is back. Please e-mail more stories about the pioneers roadtripping with a hen — "to guarantee that they would have an egg a day, mostly needed for making cheap, filling pancakes" and "knowing them (3 lusty surfbums) they probably also used her as possibly one of the first 'chick magnets.' "

    Your stories are the best.

    Love,
    The Weekly Porkmeyer

JP: I thought I saw Taylor with a chicken at Warmwaters the other day. Can you confirm?
