I cannot express how much I absolutely love this statue. It has enriched my life greatly. Everyone involved bringing this gem into our lives should be commended. The $120,000 was money well spent. I'm glad the statue was placed in such a high profile location. I am proud to be surfer and resident of Encinitas. The Cardiff Surfer statue is truly something for all of us to rejoice together as a community.

STORY ON CH.8 TONIGHT AT 5PM AND 6:30PM ABOUT SURFER REACTION TO CARDIFF STATUE. I'm a photographer for Ch. 8 and some of the pictures posted on this site of the statue are from video I shot yesterday at the unveiling. It aired a couple times yesterday and we are working on a follow up today taking the angle of dissatisfied surfers. Check it out and it will be available on www.cbs8.com after it airs as well.
the sculpture is obviously talented. he just made an error in the expression, a little, well a whole lot, leave it to beaver, and the posture, well, "jazz hands, jazz hands!" ...there's room for improvement. war is stupid.

That thing sucks so bad...I drove by it on my way home tonight and was cracking up. Then again, it does look like 80% of Cardiff surfers.
Even Huntington Beach was smart enough to focus on the wave with their street art. I would have spent the $120 grand and bought the world a VG's.

Why the change? I noticed the pics of the statue are gone from your original blog. I still think the statue is horrible. Unfortunately it's quite accurate for the donkey ratio in that area.
The pics are still on the other blog but they are off the main page. I've got a couple of quotes about the statue in todays newspaper but I'm ready to move on. This thing is starting to haunt me.
OK- so it's there, nice craftmanship but lacking in the thought process. I think it would look better on Carpenter's way, maybe rotate the figures out?
Is anyone making a sticker for the situation, I need one to cover my eyes when I drive by (I'll need about 365 stickers a year).

Well, today the limp wristed metal munching surfer had a bikini top and a pink ruffly skirt on! The fun will never end.....maybe it's the lonely sea, the lonely seeeeea...this is off the deep end. I predict half the population are laughing their shorts off and the other half are about ready to press charges. Maybe they can work together to press their shorts? Time sure flies when yer havin fun
